Writer. FH published articles by Wells in the Fortnightly Review and later commissioned him to write reviews for the Saturday Review. They first met after Wells submitted an article, the Universe Rigid, which FH did not understand - with good reason, according to Wells, as it was "a laboured and ill-written description of a four-dimensional space-time universe".

Wells, in his Experiment in Autobiography describes a very uncomfortable interview with FH in which he failed to explain his article, unnerved by a combination of FH's brusqueness ("Gahd, the way I've been let in!") and embarrassment over the disreputable state of his own very ancient top hat.
